Almost Disappeared: Unearthing My Family History

almostDisappeared.com will be a blog primarily to share the images, documents, and genealogical resources I have found over the last 20 years while tracing my family history. All the branches of my family, uprooted from Africa to the United States, converged in one place – Woodville, Wilkinson County, Mississippi. Later, branches of the family were scattered throughout Louisiana, and with the onset of the Civil War, ran away or migrated to Chicago and other Northern cities.

After years of research I have gained valuable insight into the history of slavery in Mississippi and how the plantation system worked. Much of my family history is buried inside antebellum plantation documents and public records. I hope this blog will provide resources for others, especially those whose families may have been enslaved on the same plantations, the opportunity to share and learn about their family history so that our ancestors will always be remembered.
